Seminar for Senior Managers and Experts on NATO Standards and Project Evaluation Procedures, focusing on Hydro- Meteorological aspects 20-22 February 2008, RACVIAC Center for Security for SEE, Zagreb, Croatia

Within framework of Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative for South Eastern Europe (DPPI SEE) Disaster Management Training Program 2008, the Seminar for Experts and Senior Managers on NATO Standards and Project Evaluation Procedures, focusing on Hydro- Meteorological aspects, will be organized on February 20 - 22, 2008 in RACVIAC Centre in Zagreb, Croatia.

 

The Seminar will be organized in cooperation and coordination between RACVIAC-Center for Security for SEE, UN ISDR and DPPI SEE and with support by experts from NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme, World Meteorological Organization and World Bank.

 

The main objectives of the seminar are introduction to the NATO standards and project evaluation procedures, but also further encouraging of cooperation between countries in the region of SEE and enhancing of joint coordination and cooperation between national disaster management authorities and hydro-meteorological institutions in the field of hydro-meteorological hazards as preparedness and prevention and risk reduction activities in SEE.

Through the presentations, lecturers and experts from NATO Science for Peace Programme will provide us with recommendations and suggestions how to proceed with the development of possible project in accordance to the NATO SfP standards and procedures, but also how to seek possible funds from NATO for regional project activities.

 

 

 Also, regional experts and scientists from other fields (e.g. seismic) will present their experiences during development and implementation of some projects initiated and developed within framework of DPPI SEE and implemented with support from NATO SfP.

 

Also, additional outcome of this seminar could be project proposal which would further support enhancing of national and regional information exchanging and data sharing through the training activities, harmonization of hydro-meteorological equipment, hardware and software between Hydro-Meteorological institutes from SEE.

 

HARMONIZATION OF SEIZMIC HAZARD MAPS FOR THE WESTERN BALKAN COUNTRIES, PODGORICA, MONTENEGRO, 2 October 2007

Project Harmonization of Seismic Hazard Maps for the Western Balkan Countries”, initiated and developed within framework of the DPPI SEE has been accepted by NATO Committee for Science for Peace and Security Program. 6 DPPI SEE member countries are involved in the project; Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia as well as experts from Turkey, Greece and Slovenia, NATO and DEMA. It is important to highlight that this project is 2nd highest awarded sum in the history of NATO Science for Peace Program.

Zagreb   — On September 24, 2007, government representatives of Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Moldova, Romania and Slovenia have taken an important step forward in their efforts to improve the region’s disaster preparedness, prevention and response capability and co-ordination by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Institutional Framework of the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative for South Eastern Europe (DPPI SEE).
